50mm Lens Meetup

50mm Lens Meetup

Saturday 08 July
Frear Park - 10am - 2 Hours
Albany Photography Group
The 50mm lens is one of the flexible and useful lenses in any photographer’s gear bag. It is neither a wide-angle or telephoto lens, but allows the camera to see on the same scale as your eye. As such, it can be used for a variety of styles, from landscape and street photography to portrait and product photography. In this meetup, we’ll review the basic camera settings. We’ll then cover some of the advantages of shooting with a prime lens, and some basic techniques to using the 50mm lens. As always, there will be ample opportunities for you to put your new knowledge into practice.

Architecture Photography

Architecture Photography

Sunday 23 July
Monument Square - 2pm - 2 Hours
Albany Photography Group
Architectural photography can be a great way of exploring and documenting a city, whether it's your home or on holiday. Its about capturing not only the design and accurate representation of a building, but to have the shots be aesthetically pleasing to the viewer's eye. An architectural photographer makes pictures, not takes pictures. In this session, we will be covering how to better understand Architecture photography and we'll be looking at ways to take some impressive shots and the camera settings to use.

Backlighting, Bokeh and Bursts

Backlighting, Bokeh and Bursts

Saturday 15 July
287 Pancake Hollow Rd. Highland - 1pm - 2 Hours
Poughkeepsie Photography Group
We will be using various techniques to maximise the behaviour of the light. Backlighting is one of my favourites and can be used for portraiture or nature. Bokeh is Japanese for blur but is a term used for soft out of focus balls of light which can look very pleasing. Burst in this case is star burst which can be achieved when you have strong areas of light and a correct choice of aperture. Use all three to create some amazing compositions.

    Elissa Ebersold
Elissa is an award-winning music photographer, music journalist, and graphic designer based in New York's Capital District. She's been taking pictures every since she was a child, but it was only until after she suffered a life-altering injury that she found her niche in the music world as a way to push her physical limits. As a photographer and designer, she's been featured in both print & digital magazines, and has even had photographs appear as single artwork on the Billboard Charts.

An avid fan of long road trips and world travel, she is ruled by her three cats, Jupiter, Loki & Zeus, and has way too many plush blankets and vintage cameras.
