Come along to our photo sessions to dust off your camera and get snap-happy with a professional photography instructor.

Brush up on your camera skills and learn new photography techniques whilst on a photo walk class with other local keen photographers!

We run two hour photography sessions based on a photography theme/technique/style and they take place in various locations in Albany.

  • New to photography? We also run a popular 3 hour Beginners Guide to Photography Class once a month. And once in a while we will run special niche 3 hour classes, for example, Astrophotography - so do subscribe to our newsletter to know when the next on is!

  • Who can attend? Open to all skill levels, from beginners to keen amateurs. The photography instructor is there to help you with camera settings and provide any advice you need.

  • What to bring? We recommend bringing a camera that has full manual mode or semi-manual modes (Aperture or Shutter Priority). Compact cameras and smartphones also welcome!

The meeting point and full details for the day are sent in the booking confirmation email to the email address you provide at time of booking.

Join the Albany Photography Group on Facebook to share your photos after the session.

The scavenger hunt was fun and enabled me to have a starting point in what to look for. And reviewing it before hand did open up some dialogue which was helpful. However, I do wish there would've been more suggestions or tips and tricks on setting up the shots. For instance maybe ideas on different angles, composition etc for setting up the shots. We were kind of set free to explore but I could've done that at my own.
Great event. Exceeded my expectations. Street photography gave me the opportunity to use my 50mm. Lots of photo subjects. Elissa provided us with some foundation principles, had us practice and gave suggestions on photo opportunities (i.e. dogs, depth of field, color and textures). She was available to answer questions, provide advice and help with improving participants' efforts. Good morning for picture taking.
It was a fun, learning experience.

I took this session as I wanted to learn the core features of my camera and the key components I needed to understand in order to move forward with photography! Ivette, nailed it! I walked away from the class with knowledge and hands on use of these features which allowed me to implement after class. Getting to know ISO, Shutter Speed and Aperture! Would totally recommend for the newbie seeking clarity as leaning your camera becomes overwhelming! Thanks Ivette, much appreciated!
I found the class to be very informative and helpful. Elissa was fantastic and so knowledgeable. I look forward to getting to know my camera better and taking future classes. Thank you for proving such a wonderful resource.
Elissa was a great instructor and provided helpful skills and tips. She was patient and did a bit of 1-1 with people which was fantastic!

This photo is from a photoshoot I did in Boston while visiting for a holiday. My goal was to get close to capturing the real size of the buildings I saw without the camera. For this, I used my Sony 24 - 105 lens at a 41-focal length, f11, ISO 50. Edited in Lightroom.

The geography where I live is a wide open plain between the foothills of the Catskills and the Hudson River allowing for beautiful skies. While out walking my dog at sunset last week I saw this and grabbed the shot. I love late summer and autumn skies when the sun is lower in the sky. A nice change from washed out colors from the summer sun.Shot with iPhone 14 Max (no Nikon on dog walks).and processed in Snapseed

I shot this from Green Island, Troy. I like the balance of the golden color on the horizon and the water with some of the lights that are of the same color.

An unseasonably warm autumn night had me driving out to one of the local lakes in our area. The glow of the setting sun brought out the colors of the blue house as well as and the surrounding foliage. Shot with a Canon. There is slight photo enhancement using Lightroom.

I had gone for a walk in the woods with my friend. We were looking up into the tree's to see if we could spot any Owls chatting away, as I looked back down to the path this beautiful fox was walking towards us.

Taken with Nikon D7500 with 300mm Nikkor lens. Two male Kingfishers possibly adult male and offspring sitting low by the River Crane. Light was low so had to use a high ISO. Because of this the image had to be denoised . It was then cropped and clarity and texture added in Lightroom. I have a nice triptych of them sitting in three different poses.
